Attorney Richard L. MorrisAttorney Richard L. Morris

Hi, my name is Richard L. Morris and I am a Domestic Relations Attorney. I almost equally represent both women and men in my practice. For the past 15 years, my office has been located in Gahanna, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, Ohio also known as Central, Ohio. I have lived in Ohio since 1987 and consider myself a transplanted Buckeye. I have been practicing domestic relations law since 1990. I chose this area of practice because I consider myself to be a problem solver and most domestic relations issues, such as divorce, can be stressful for the parties involved. I offer help with dividing marital assets, liabilities, and households as well as dealing with minor children, deciding how they will be cared for, and what time and expense each parent will be responsible for at the end of the marriage or relationship. I view divorce as an opportunity to help clients navigate a separation and obtain a resolution that is beneficial for them and their family. It is my objective to help my clients live on their own after the end of the marriage or relationship and have peace of mind that I have helped them try to receive all that they are legally allowed to receive under the domestic laws in Ohio.

Early Experience & Background

I was born in Montreal, Canada and lived there until the age of 15 when my family moved to the State of Florida. While living in Canada, I became a competitive swimmer and continued to swim after moving to Florida where I earned a Florida High School Swimming Championship in 200 IM. After graduating high school, I attended Louisiana State University for one year then transferred to Florida State University. I swam collegiately at both schools, but finished my college education at FSU. After graduating college, I worked for my parents at their printing shop then decided to attend law school because I had a cousin that was an attorney and he possessed a tremendous drive and tenacity to help others. I recognized that I wanted to be like my cousin and that I had the same drive to help people I attended the University of Dayton Law School, in Dayton, Ohio where I earned my law degree in 1990.

My practice is limited to domestic relations law such as divorce, dissolution, child custody, child support, spousal support, division of assets and liabilities, grandparent visitation, domestic violence, civil protection orders, and step-parent adoptions. I possess a very approachable personality, communicate effectively, initiate and complete work for clients quickly and return calls promptly. I have had numerous clients comment about my excellent, professional service and how responsive I am to their calls and emails.

I am still an active swimmer and a member of the New Albany Master’s Swim Team, in New Albany, Ohio. Even at the age of 51, I am still a nationally ranked swimmer and complete at the U.S. Masters National Swim Meets each year. I also coached for the New Albany Aquatics Swim Club for two years, where I was the lead coach of the Tsunami Group (children ages 9-11) and I recently accepted the head swim coaching position at Westerville North High School, in Westerville, Ohio.

The most important part of my life, however, is my family. I have been married for 23 years and have two children. My children each have their own personal interests and I have loved supporting each one. My oldest daughter, who is now in college, participated in volleyball and swimming during her high school years and my youngest daughter has been a competitive dancer for 8 years. I also have the pleasure of working with my wife for over 17 years, who acts as my legal assistant and office manager.
